Since 2013, the Little Red River Foundation has worked to improve the health of the river and its trout fishery.

We support scientific research, advocate for better water management, and work with public agencies and conservation partners to address issues affecting the Little Red River.

Why the Little Red River Matters

  • World-Class Trout Fishery — The river is known for its trout fishery and supports important research.

  • Thriving Communities — The river is part of life for communities along its banks.

  • Outdoor Recreation — The river offers valued opportunities to fish and spend time outdoors.

  • Local Economic Opportunity — River activity supports nearby businesses and livelihoods.Changes in water flow, fish populations, and habitat can affect the river's future.

The river supports a renowned trout fishery, outdoor recreation, local businesses, and communities along its banks.

Changes in water flow, fish populations, and habitat can affect the river’s future. LRRF supports research, conservation, and advocacy to help protect it.

UAPB’s Study Research on the Little Red’s Trout Diet

LRRF has committed funding to a multiyear research project at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff studying trout diets and food availability in the Little Red River.

The research will help scientists better understand the conditions affecting the fishery and inform future management decisions.

ADVOCACY & PARTNERSHIPS

Working with government agencies, elected officials, and conservation organizations to address the river's most pressing challenges.

Better Water Flows for the Little Red River

The Little Red River's trout fishery depends on cold, reliable water releases from Greers Ferry Dam. Changes in river flows can affect water temperature, trout habitat, and fishing conditions.

LRRF is advocating for the river's inclusion in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Sustainable Rivers Program, which could help support a more science-based approach to river management.

Legacy on the Little Red: 63 Years of the Greers Ferry Dam

On October 3, 1963, President John F. Kennedy dedicated Greers Ferry Dam, marking a turning point for the Little Red River and surrounding communities. More than six decades later, the dam continues to shape the region through flood control, hydropower, recreation, and the cold-water habitat that supports its trout fishery.

More Than a River. A Story Worth Protecting.

The Little Red River brings people together through fishing, recreation, and a shared appreciation for nature. Discover the story behind this remarkable Arkansas waterway.
